The Ethiopian Roads Administration (ERA), formerly known as the Ethiopian Roads Authority, is the central agency responsible for road development and maintenance in Ethiopia. Established in 1951, ERA has undergone various institutional reforms to enhance its capacity in managing the vast and expanding road network that connects Ethiopia’s rural and urban centers.

ERA’s mission is to plan, construct, and maintain roads that promote economic growth, accessibility, and national integration. It operates under a mandate to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective road transport. By facilitating trade and access to services, ERA supports Ethiopia’s development agenda and works in collaboration with regional states, the private sector, and international donors.
